We renewed our vision and mission to reflect our aspirations, reinforcing the central importance of research and education and highlighting amplified attention to the UBC Science community, teamwork, and externalization.
Social Contract
The concept of a pact emerged naturally through the planning dialogue, reflecting our collective sense of responsibility and optimism. These principles capture long-standing priorities to all of us in the Faculty, many of which are especially relevant at this inflection point.

Alignment with other Plans
We affirmed our foundational connections with the university’s strategic plan through the values and themes that underpin Shaping UBC’s Next Century. The UBC values of excellence, integrity, respect, academic freedom, and accountability were strongly endorsed through input and dialogue. These tenets underpin our new social contract, and we will work to ensure that they guide our decision-making and action, and characterize our interactions, both internal and external.
In addition to working more closely with our peer Faculties across UBC, there are important institutional plans and commitments with which our efforts must connect.
- Shaping UBC’s Next Century (UBC wide strategic action plan)
- Indigenous Strategic Plan (UBC)
- Inclusion Action Plan (UBC Equity and Inclusion)
- Wellbeing Strategic Framework (UBC Wellbeing)
- UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP)
- Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Calls to Action
